Artisan made and sculpted by Carruth Studio in Waterville, Ohio circa 1994 by George Carruth.
Great for a garden ornament, wall art, fireplace or mantle decor, hang on backyard fence, or even a single bookend.
Back in 1980 George Carruth of Ohio, was a full-time sculpture for American Greetings (greeting card company) as well as a part time stone carver as a personal hobby. George would carve ornate pictorial "garden stones" as decorations. George's wife admired her husband's carvings and suggested to him to travel around to local trade shows and arts and crafts events trying to sale his amazing stone carvings. Consumers fell in love with Curruth's artistic vision and the many uses of the stone art. George decided to quit American Greetings and opened a full time artisan studio to market his idea and passion and in 1983, he opened Carruth Studio in Waterville, Ohio.
In 1985 a friend and buyer encourages George to cast his designs making Carruth’s art available to many at a modest price. Carruth took that advice and in the next 10 years became a national known name in cast stone art. With that success, Carruth Studio received some media attention and high profile District of Columbia art commissions.
In 1995, Carruth Studio was asked to actually sculpt the Clinton White House Christmas tree ornament and several pieces for the National Cathedral in Washington D.C. A "White House tree ornament" is a Christmas ornament officially designed and produced by the White House Historical Association each year, commemorating a specific president or significant moment in White House history, making it special because it is a unique collectible that ties directly to American presidential legacy and is considered a cherished holiday tradition for many families across the country; essentially, it's like owning a piece of White House history to hang on your Christmas tree
The following year in 1996, Carruth opened Garden Smiles in Waterville Ohio. Garden Smiles is a gift shop that offers the entire line of Carruth products and work from other artists.
The Carruth Studio and George was the focus of 2001's PBS Special George Carruth: An American Sculptor. George also became a co-author of children's books with his daughter Libby.
In 2008 , Libby and George celebrated their third children's book publication, happily named If I Was A Dinosaur.
George was honored in 2018 when he was invited by world famous Tony Packo’s Restaurant to sign a hot dog bun. Tony Packo invented this honorary tradition in 1972. George joined a long list of celebrities including United States presidents, actors, athletes, musicians and astronauts who have been asked to sign a bun to display at their restaurant. The following year in 2019, Tony Packo’s Restaurants commissioned Carruth Studio to create the "Packo’s Pickle" helping promote their line of food products and establishing their brand in Toledo and the surrounding Ohio area.
The Society of the Honor Guard which curates the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, commissioned Carruth Studio to create the marker for the Never Forget Garden. The honor awarded to Carruth was part of the 100th anniversary of the Tomb of The Unknown Soldier.
In 2021, George and the Carruths relocated Garden Smiles next to the Carruth Studio making one Gallery and Gift Shop simply now called Carruth Gift & Gallery ( 1178 Farnsworth Rd in Waterville, OH).
