The Gorham Manufacturing Company was founded in 1831 in Providence, Rhode Island, by Jabez Gorham silversmiths of the 19th century.
The Gorham Manufacturing Company was one of the world's giants in the fields of silver craftsmanship and made their mark in sculptural foundry work. Such was Gorham's expertise and dominance in the marketplace that even Tiffany & Co. outsourced all its silverware production to Gorham.
In 1991, Gorham was acquired by the Brown-Foreman Corporation. This acquisition expanded Brown-Foreman's market share of fine china, crystal ware , and silverware.
In 1999 Brown-Foreman looked to a company in Germany to design and manufacture them crystal stemware. Nachtmann Crystal in Germany made crystal for Gorham for the AMORE' Collection. With an artisan heritage stretching back 185 years, the Bavarian glass maker was pioneering environmental technology at among one of Europe's most modern plants. This new German tradition of crystal glass-making combined craftsmanship with rigid quality control, new technology and Nachtmann's devout passion for perfection.
In 2000, Natchmann Crystal made this pair of crystal and frost "Dove Toasting Flutes" for Gorham, USA.

Crystal glass is made with the same ingredients as glass, but with lead or zinc oxide added. The lead oxide increases the glass's refractive index, which makes it sparkle and bend light more. The composition also makes the glass stronger but yet thinner in structure.
