The identification of "unmarked" cobalt glass is very difficult to obtain. MemoryLaneVintiques mission is to research every item historically to have the most accurate listing information for our buyers to make a "peace of mind" decision when purchasing from our shop. This item listing is the most accurate information we could provide. Made by Indiana Glass Company (Dunkirk, IN 1907-2002) between 1969-1979. It is cobalt oxide molten glass made in a commercial glass pressing machine. Glass pressing machines were invented by John P. Bakewell in 1825 (NOT HAND BLOWN ARTISAN). This means the cobalt molten glass (glob) was placed in a 3-dimensional glass cast in the furnace and heated at high temperatures to form. Then it is cooled by conveyor annealing thus making it very strong in structure. The glass designer for Indiana Glass really hit a home run with this figurine line and with the machine pressed method several were produced. The model appears to be of a Victorian Era fashion slip on "Congress" shoe (NOT A COWBOY BOOT UNLESS YOU SEE IT THAT WAY). Out of the 3 main tints of US made cobalt glass, this is referred to as Cornflower Blue or Royal Blue which is the darkest yet still has transparency. The pattern is Daisy & Button which at the time of production was the most popular and famous ornate glass pattern. It was widely used by nearly all glass makers in the USA and is amazing still used as a glass pattern today. The pattern was created by Belmont Glass Co. (est. 1866, Ohio) and is commonly referred to as Cornflowers, Chicory, Floral/Flowers, Daisy Quilt, etc. The figurine could serve many purposes...decor, loose change, small floral arrangement (recommend daisies:), toothpicks or like most as a bathroom vanity accessory (see last photo of cotton swab holder).
