Vintage Knicks & Knacks

1930's Porcelain Flour Shaker-Japan

$20.00

  • Details
Flour shakers (sifter) were popular between 1920-1960, and usually was accompanied by a matching sugar shaker. These were made with a rounded dome called a "caster dome" to distinguish flour and sugar shakers from salt and pepper shakers. This design actually led to the mistaken term Caster Sugar which today is confused with a brand of sugar.
Flour is often used in baking to prevent dough from sticking to your hands and surfaces. Having a shaker full of flour allows you to give dough a light dusting when needed and without you sticking your dirty hands into the flour bag or canister.
